My name is Ashley, and my dad, Blake Chapman, first came to No Longer Bound in August 2005. Every little girl wants a daddy to play with, to love her and to nurture her. A daddy she can trust to be there for her no matter what. Every little girl wants to feel safe and secure with their dad. Growing up I had this on occasion but it wasn’t something stable. My dad would disappear for weeks at a time, if I got to visit him he would sleep our time away. As I got older, I began to understand more about why my dad was not reliable. I always knew my dad loved me, but it always felt like he loved his drugs a little more than me. He might sober up for months here and there and our relationship would grow and flourish and things would start to feel normal, but nothing ever really lasted or got to the root of his problem. This roller coaster relationship with my dad lasted into my high school years when finally he hit rock bottom for probably his 100th time and some wonderful people picked him up and encouraged him to get help from No Longer Bound.
No Longer Bound was the beginning of mine and my dad’s relationship without the ups and downs. Because of NLB, I am now that little girl that feels loved and nurtured, my dad is definitely someone I can trust to be there for me no matter what, and I always feel safe and secure with him. No Longer Bound is a place where men learn how to be real men that know how to love and be there for their families. No Longer Bound has given me a dad that not only wants to love me and care for me, but a dad who now knows how to. When I think of my dad, I think of a wise and beautiful man who loves better than anyone else I know. He is the man I always knew he could be. This is what No Longer Bound means to me. I wouldn’t change a single thing about my dad or his story. He is an inspiration to me and so many others, thanks to No Longer Bound.
I love you daddy! You are a beautiful man!
